Discover Belgium’s
Activities
Pumpkins all around!
If you’re visiting Belgium in autumn, you cannot miss the pumpkin regatta. It’s a kayak race that happens only in October in de Kempen (Flanders). In this race, a bunch of people crawl into huge, hollowed-out pumpkins and race down a river. An absolute must-see.
Spa
Well-known for its wellness purposes, Spa is a great place to visit in Belgium. It’s part of the European cultural itinerary of historic thermal towns alongside Bath or Vichy. This little gem nestled in nature is the perfect destination for travellers in need of some well-earned rest!
Flanders: for the outdoorsy kind
Flanders is a true walking and cycling paradise. Discover the stunning scenery on foot or by bike. Our parks and public gardens are breathtaking and perfect to take some truly magical pictures. Your friends and family will be just as impressed as you are when they see them.
Hunting for trolls
Feeling adventurous? Go hunting for trolls at De Schorre in Boom. The Danish artist Thomas Dambo created seven trolls (“The 7 Trolls and The Magical Tower”) and scattered them across the public domain of De Schorre. Now it’s up to you to find them and witness their beauty. The game is afoot!
Go Kayaking in the Ardennes
Wallonia is known for its beautiful nature and there are certainly many ways to experience it. But why not dive in straight away? Rent a kayak and witness the Wallonian rivers and the mountains surrounding them. A perfect summer activity, and a personal favourite for many Belgians.
Binche Carnival
The Binche Carnival is one of Belgium’s showstopping events. Three days before Ash Wednesday, the people of Binche and its visitors dress up as one of four characters to celebrate. It’s a unique celebration that dates back to the 14th century and hasn’t changed much since. Enjoy the costumes, throw some oranges and party alongside the Belgians at this UNESCO-recognised event.
Belgium’s Christmas markets
Around Christmas time, Belgium really leans into tradition and cosiness. That’s why our Christmas markets are the perfect place to try some local delicacies and just have a great time. Usually, our Christmas markets have all kinds of fun activities for all ages like games and rides, but we also offer yummy pancakes, waffles, chips, raclette, pastries, sweets, pizza… – we could go on for days. Visit any Christmas market in our major cities (Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Ghent, Leuven, Bruges, Ostend, etc.) and soak up the Christmas spirit!
