Pumpkins all around!

If you’re visiting Belgium in autumn, you cannot miss the pumpkin regatta. It’s a kayak race that happens only in October in de Kempen (Flanders). In this race, a bunch of people crawl into huge, hollowed-out pumpkins and race down a river. An absolute must-see.

Binche Carnival

The Binche Carnival is one of Belgium’s showstopping events. Three days before Ash Wednesday, the people of Binche and its visitors dress up as one of four characters to celebrate. It’s a unique celebration that dates back to the 14th century and hasn’t changed much since. Enjoy the costumes, throw some oranges and party alongside the Belgians at this UNESCO-recognised event.
